The Hopson House History
The ''History of Poultney' printed in 1875, refers to the Hopson House, the former residence of the Rev. Oliver
Hopson, as "his well remembered hospitable house between the two villages".
This gambrel roof home, built in 1785 for Dr. Jonas Safford, was the residence of the Rev. Hopson from 1847 to
1865.
Today the Hopson House' reputation of hospitality continues and visitors are welcome.
Located on Rt. 140 between Poultney and E. Poultney green we offer private baths and rooms furnished with
carefully selected antiques.
