The History of Poultney, printed in 1875, refers to The Hopson House, the
former residence of the Rev. Oliver Hopson, as "his well remembered
hospitable house between the two villages"..

This gambrel roof home, built in 1785 for Dr. Jonas Safford, was the
residence of the Rev. Hopson from 1847 until 1865.

Today, The Hopson House's reputation of hospitality continues and visitors
are welcome.

Guests are encouraged to visit the villages of Poultney and East Poultney,
both rich in history.  East Poultney is best known as the early home of
Horace Greeley, and the birthplace of George Jones, founder of the
New
York Times
